Why Specialized Care Matters

Understanding Teen Girls’ Mental Health

At Interval Teen, our heart goes out to every young woman navigating the tumultuous seas of adolescence. We recognize that teen girls’ mental health treatment is not just about addressing current symptoms but understanding and healing the whole person. Adolescence is a critical period marked by rapid physical, emotional, and social changes. It’s a time when mental health issues can surface or become exacerbated, making specialized care essential.

Why Specialized Care Matters

The unique challenges faced by adolescent girls–from body image issues to the pressures of social media–require an approach that is both sensitive and holistic. Interval Teen is dedicated to providing this through a gender-specific residential program that understands the complex tapestry of issues affecting teen girls.

Comprehensive Treatment Approach

Our program combines traditional therapeutic methods with innovative experiential activities designed to heal the mind and spirit. From DBT-informed therapy to yoga and equine therapy, we offer a sanctuary for healing and self-discovery.

Our Treatment Focus

A myriad of mental health challenges can disrupt an adolescent’s journey to adulthood. At Interval Teen, we specialize in a broad spectrum of conditions, including depressive disorders, anxiety, trauma, and much more. Each girl who walks through our doors receives an individualized treatment plan, reflecting our commitment to her unique path to wellness.

Holistic and Healing Activities

Healing goes beyond the therapy room. Our experiential activities are not just add-ons but integral parts of our treatment model, fostering self-expression, confidence, and resilience among our teens.

Family Involvement in Healing

Teen girls’ mental health treatment is most effective when families are actively involved. We offer family therapy and skills training to support the entire family system, recognizing that healing is a journey that involves loved ones.

Our approach is designed not just to navigate the immediate challenges but to lay the groundwork for long-term resilience and wellness.

The Interval Teen Difference

What to do when your child needs mental health help?

When you observe that your child may need mental health support, the first step is to create a safe, non-judgmental space for them to express their feelings and experiences. Initiate a supportive conversation with empathy and without assuming you know exactly what they’re going through. Consult with healthcare professionals like pediatricians, who can provide an initial evaluation and recommend specialists like child psychologists or psychiatrists as needed. At Interval Teen, we recommend reaching out to programs specialized in adolescent mental health, as early intervention tailored to the unique needs of your child can make a substantial difference in their healing journey.

What are a few warning signs of psychological distress in a child?

Warning signs can vary widely but generally include sudden changes in behavior, such as withdrawal from social activities, significant changes in sleeping or eating patterns, decline in academic performance, and expressing feelings of hopelessness or low self-esteem. Also, watch for more overt signs such as unexplained physical symptoms, frequent mood swings, and talk or behavior that might indicate self-harm. Keep in mind, these signs can be subtle, and the presence of one does not necessarily mean there’s a serious issue. However, they are indicators that it might be time to seek professional consultation.

Why is specialized care so important for teen girls’ mental health?

Teen girls face unique challenges and pressures that can affect their mental health, including body image issues, social media pressures, and gender-specific expectations. Specialized care understands and addresses these unique challenges in a sensitive and holistic manner. At Interval Teen, our gender-specific residential program is designed to meet these needs, recognizing the importance of a comprehensive approach that includes traditional therapy, experiential activities, and family involvement. Tailored care supports not just symptom management but fosters long-term resilience and healing.

How important is family involvement in the healing process?

Family involvement is crucial in the healing process. Adolescents are at a stage where family dynamics significantly influence their emotional and psychological development. At Interval Teen, we involve families through therapy and skill-building exercises that foster understanding and healthier communication. By working together, families can create a supportive environment that enhances the teen’s healing journey, addressing not only the individual’s needs but also improving the overall family well-being. This collaborative approach lays a strong foundation for long-term recovery and resilience.

What are some common misconceptions about teen mental health treatment?

A common misconception is that seeking mental health treatment is a sign of weakness or failure, both on the part of the teen and their families. However, recognizing the need for help and taking action is a sign of strength. Another misconception is that mental health issues in teens are just a phase that they’ll grow out of. While adolescence is indeed a time of change, dismissing serious mental health concerns can lead to more significant issues in the long run. At Interval Teen, we advocate for viewing mental health treatment as a proactive and positive step towards wellness and empowerment.

What benefits does a holistic approach offer in treating teen mental health?

A holistic approach to teen mental health treatment addresses the whole person, not just their symptoms. By integrating traditional therapies with experiential activities like yoga and equine therapy, we cater to the emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual needs of the individual. This comprehensive approach fosters a deeper self-awareness, strengthens coping strategies, and promotes lasting healing. Teens learn to navigate their emotions and experiences in healthier ways, leading to improved self-esteem and resilience against future challenges. This not only supports their recovery but also equips them with skills for a healthier, more fulfilling life.

CEO / Chairman of the board

Our Founder - Steve Zamarripa

Steve’s Story

I started La Ventana Treatment Programs in 2007 as a personal journey looking inward for answers on a more meaningful life.  I sold my previous business in 2005 and started my journey on giving back and helping others suffering from mental health illness and substance abuse. I had an awakening and simply wanted to create a place “to help” by providing a platform where professionals and dedicated staff could work their magic towards helping people.

Growing up, my family was plagued with mental health issues and alcoholism where nobody could express their feelings and I was taught that boys don’t cry ever and did not shed a tear myself until my early forties when I divorced and I cried for my three children. I learned to survive instead of learning how to live and that survival mode where I protected myself and did not trust anybody carried me through most of my adulthood.

Mental health issues were everywhere in my life growing up but in the 1960s and 1970s there was very little discussion around mental health and facilities to help people struggling were almost nonexistent.  Most of my childhood was filled with fear. I lived in fear of my father, in fear of family secrets, in fear of emotions and feelings and in fear of people in general. I remember being afraid of many things as a child and fear was part of growing up which led to establishing survival techniques to live.

Interval Teen was the brainchild of Rebekah Sanchez Norton, from our own clinical leadership team, and I enthusiastically  supported it when she presented it to me. I realized how my own life would have been healthier and happier had there been an Interval Teen when I was growing up.

I have learned many things since opening my first mental health facility in 2007 and I have grown tremendously as a person.  I have realized that in my family I believe there are no crimes beyond forgiveness. I have forgiven my father and my mother for their crazy dysfunctional lifestyle and for any mistakes made in raising their children. I have forgiven myself for the crimes I committed on my family, for my inability to love and for the hurt I caused so many people throughout my journey.

I am now a loved man capable of receiving love, giving love and expressing love which is more than enough for my life. This has been the greatest achievement in my recovery thus far.

I provide the community with Interval Teen in hopes of helping young women face their fears, work on their mental health issues and become strong women for the future of our society.
